"VAGUE IDEAS" A HANDMADE ART ZINE - LIMITED COPIES AVAILABLE.
This zine comes from an album on my phone called vague ideas, named after Jean-Luc Godard’s line about confronting vague ideas with clear images.
Inside are small recognitions, daydreams, and fragments at the beginning of something. Alongside the images are notes on the creative process, the joy and the missteps.
It’s a playful zine meant to be spent with slowly, near a window, where light can move across the pages. Some pages can be lifted and layered, letting the paper act as a filter and changing the images as you look.
Each page is printed on paper chosen from my personal collection. All are made in Japan, many produced by craftspeople in long-running workshops. They’re selected for how they hold light and for their tactile character.
Each Vague Ideas zine has been mesh cotton and glue bound by me. The cover is very simple and minimal—made from smooth resilient Japanese paper. Handwritten title on the spine. Numbered, signed and dated on the inner back cover.
Nothing about this art zine is perfect. It is slow-made using materials made by craftspeople and that means accepting the natural and honest nuances that occur to make each page, print, stitch unique. Intended to be more than just a quick flick-through, I hope that the thought that has gone into the printing, texture and light of the art zine will create an experience beyond a just visual one.
